How the Horsham service runs

The Horsham Branch of the Royal British Legion is the main organiser, working with St Mary’s Church and Horsham District Council (Horsham District Council, 11 November 2025).

On the day, going by the council’s account of 2023 (Horsham District Council, 12 November 2023):

  1. The parade comes down North Street, through East Street and into the Carfax to the war memorial.
  2. The service opens with prayers and the hymn O God Our Help in Ages Past, then the Last Post.
  3. The Chair of the Horsham RBL branch reads the Exhortation.
  4. Two-minute silence at 11am.
  5. Wreaths are laid, led on behalf of the King by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant in 2024 and 2025, then the council chairman for the people of the district, the MP, the RBL branch chair and the county council, followed by the armed services and youth organisations.
  6. One verse of the National Anthem and a blessing close the service at the memorial.
  7. A church service follows at St Mary’s Parish Church in the Causeway, open to everyone.

The Revd Canon Lisa Barnett, Team Rector of Horsham Parish, has led the service in each of the last three years (Horsham District Council, 11 November 2024).

Roads and parking

Last year vehicles could not use Swan Yard, the Carfax or the Causeway during the parade and service (Visit Horsham). The parade also crosses the Albion Way and Park Way junctions on its way down North Street. Detailed closure times for 2026 have not been published. Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November

A shorter service is held in the Carfax on 11 November itself. In 2025 it had prayers, the Exhortation, the Last Post and a one-minute silence at 11am, followed by official wreaths and then public wreath laying at the memorial, with neighbouring schools attending (Horsham District Council, 11 November 2025).

Horsham station has had its own remembrance memorial since 7 November 2025, unveiled by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex with the council chairman, the MP and the RBL branch (Horsham District Council, 7 November 2025).
