Friday sessions restart at The Bridge on 11 September, 4.30pm to 6pm, £5 a place and free for carers. Summer's Parkinson's and stroke sessions drew 50 people.

Horsham Wheels for ALL restarts for the autumn on Friday 11 September, and runs every Friday of term to 23 October. Sessions are 4.30pm to 6pm on the athletics track at The Bridge Leisure Centre, Wickhurst Lane, Broadbridge Heath, about a mile and a half west of Horsham town centre. (Horsham District Council)

It is the council’s weekly inclusive cycling session, open to all ages and abilities, with 25 adapted bikes and trikes and instructors on hand.

The practical details

  • £5 per session. Leisure Access Card holders pay 20 per cent less.
  • Parents, carers and siblings take part free.
  • Book and pay online in advance. Ticket sales close at 10am on the day of each session, and the council cannot take cash.
  • Helmets are provided if you do not bring your own.
  • Arrive when you like. The ticket covers all or part of the session, and you can stay as long as you want.
  • Toilets at The Bridge include a Changing Places facility.

The instructors are Bikeability trained, and the council says every session has a mix of male and female instructors and at least one who is Makaton trained. There is a list of the 25 adapted cycles on the council’s page, worth reading before a first visit so you know which one suits.

One more date is already fixed: a Christmas special session on Tuesday 29 December, 11am to 1pm.

Why the restart matters this year

The programme did something new over the summer. The council’s Sports Development team ran adapted cycling sessions aimed specifically at people living with Parkinson’s and at stroke survivors, on the same athletics track at The Bridge.

More than 50 people attended those sessions, alongside carers, family members and support staff. Three of them were held for members of the Phoenix Stroke Club during August. For many of the Horsham Parkinson’s Group, the council says, it was a first go at adapted cycling, and for some the first time on a bike in years. (Horsham District Council, 26 August 2026)

Cllr Mark Baynham, the council’s Deputy Leader, said several participants had since asked about joining the regular weekly sessions. “Some had believed that, because of their condition, cycling was no longer possible for them,” he said.

That is the reason the autumn term is worth flagging now rather than in October. The specialist summer sessions were one-offs. The Friday sessions are the route people were pointed towards afterwards, and there are only seven of them before the programme stops for the winter.

What it means for you

If you or someone you look after wants to try it, the first Friday is 11 September and the booking closes at 10am that morning. Do not turn up expecting to pay at the track.

The season is short. Wheels for ALL runs April to October, so 23 October is the last regular Friday of 2026 and the next one after that will not be until spring, apart from the Christmas special on 29 December.

There is no charge for the person going with you, which makes it one of the cheaper accessible activities in the district for a family. Our guide to things to do in Horsham has the others, with their prices.
