The company behind Joanna's Chichester tearoom went into liquidation on 21 September. Storrington is still taking bookings, with its own firm in administration.
The company that ran Joanna’s Boutique Tearoom in Chichester has gone into liquidation. It is the third company in the Storrington tearoom group to enter a formal insolvency process in a month.
The Storrington tearoom, where the business started, is still open and taking bookings. Chichester, about 20 miles west of Storrington, has gone from the group’s own list of venues.
What the record says
Joanna’s Boutique Tearoom (Chichester) Limited, company number 14541446, passed resolutions to wind itself up voluntarily on 21 September 2026. The London Gazette published the notice on 24 September (notice 5216968).
A second notice the same day records the type of liquidation. It is a creditors’ voluntary liquidation, with the liquidators appointed by the company on 21 September (notice 5216995).
The notices give:
- Registered office: 34 High Street, Storrington, RH20 4DU, the same building as the Storrington tearoom. It is being changed to the liquidators’ Brighton office.
- Trading address: Unit 4, The Buttermarket, North Street, Chichester, PO19 1LQ.
- Joint liquidators: Sean Bucknall and Marc Norman of Quantuma Advisory Limited, 3rd Floor, 37 Frederick Place, Brighton.
- Contact: Fraser Howell at Quantuma, on 01273 322 400.
Quantuma is the same firm the group turned to in August. Its partners were appointed administrators of the Storrington company and of the separate Cranleigh company on 24 August, as we reported at the time. When we wrote that report, the Chichester company had no insolvency filings at all.
What a creditors’ voluntary liquidation means
It is not the same as administration. An administrator’s first aim is to rescue a business or sell it on as a going concern. A creditors’ voluntary liquidation is the route a company’s directors choose when they conclude it cannot pay its debts. The liquidator’s job is to close the company, sell whatever it owns and share the proceeds among its creditors.
So the three companies are now in different places:
Chichester has gone from the group’s website
The group’s “Visit” page now names two tearooms, Cranleigh and Storrington, and invites readers to “make a reservation at the Joanna’s of your choice” at either (Joanna’s, Visit). It also lists a seasonal pop-up cafe at The Mowershed, Parham House, which it says runs each year from April to October. The Chichester page, which carried opening hours and bookings when we checked on 30 August, now returns a “page not found” error.
Neither the company nor the liquidators have published a statement about the Chichester tearoom. We have not seen anything that says when it stopped trading, or whether the premises will reopen under someone else.
The Chichester company had its own brush with the register earlier this year. Companies House shows a first Gazette notice for compulsory strike-off on 2 June 2026, discontinued the next day. Its most recent accounts, filed on 27 May, are micro company accounts for the year to 30 December 2024 (Companies House filing history).
Storrington is still trading
The Storrington page is still taking reservations through its online booking tool, and offers Cranleigh as the alternative venue (Joanna’s, Storrington). Its published opening hours are unchanged:
- Monday to Thursday, 10am to 4pm
- Friday, 9am to 4pm
- Saturday, 9am to 5pm
- Sunday, 10am to 5pm
Its company, Joanna’s Boutique Tearoom Ltd, remains in administration. Nothing published by the administrators says the Storrington tearoom is closing.
What it means for you
- If you had a booking or a voucher for Chichester, the liquidators are now the people to contact: Fraser Howell at Quantuma, 01273 322 400. In a liquidation, a prepaid voucher usually makes you an unsecured creditor of the company, which means you join the queue for whatever is left rather than getting a guaranteed refund.
- If you paid by card, your card provider may be able to help. Ask them about a chargeback or, for purchases over £100 on a credit card, a claim under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
- If your booking or voucher is for Storrington or Cranleigh, contact the tearoom directly first. Those companies are in administration, not liquidation, and are still trading.
